Spitzer like Santa: Lotsa Hos
I have nothing to add, just wanted to use that headline. I’ll let Josh Marshall summarize for me:
I never cease to be amazed by stuff like this. We don’t know the precise details yet of this ‘prostitution ring involvement’ on the part of the Gov. Spitzer. But how exactly is it that someone who makes it his business to bust the chops of big wall street titans uses prostitutes?
I didn’t read the cited article ‘cuz, well, I don’t really care to read any more about this. But there’s nothing per se incompatible between “bust[ing] the chops of big wall street titans” and patronizing hookers. Hell, maybe those two things are like peanut butter and chocolate: two great tastes that go great together.
The hypocrisy stems from the fact that Spitzer was all up in Wall Street’s grill because of alleged ethical failures. Maybe Spitzer’s rep is such that this key premise need not be stated. But because there are plenty of ways to bust on Wall St. that aren’t strictly ethics-based, the premise seems critical.
Point taken.
For me, though, it’s more about “how dumb do you have to be to expose yourself [ahem] to such an easy and obvious line of attack after you’ve built up so many enemies through the years?”
It’s like Bill Clinton. Sympathize though I might with how he was railroaded over a blowjob, I still feel like grabbing him by the lapels and yelling, “Couldn’t you’ve kept your damned pants on for 8 short years?”
